LULAC NATIONAL WOMEN'S CONFERENCE:
"Latinas:  Building a Strong Foundation for the Future"

LULAC National Women's ConferenceIn 2004, LULAC women will be celebrating the 75th anniversary of the organization and commemorating Latinas in the civil rights movement at our National Women's Conference being held at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).

HISPANIC FIREFIGHTERS:

Hispanic FirefighterAre you or someone you know an Hispanic firefighter?  If so, check out the info and forum at the LULAC Firefighters, Council 4722.  Austin Council #4722 is responsible for this gem.  The following is the organization's mission statement:

  • Creating a liaison among Hispanic Firefighters and the Fire Department
  • Assuring that competent Hispanics are recruited and employed as Firefighters 
  • Promoting an equitable and diverse workforce throughout the fire service
  • Aid in motivating Hispanics to seek advancement to elevated ranks
  • Gather and evaluate data on organizational health where minorities exist
  • Perseverance in our pledge for professionalism in our members Instilling dignity and ambition through participation in our Hispanic community

CAPTIONED MEDIA PROGRAM:

CMP OnlineIf you or someone you know suffers from hearing loss, visit cfv.org, the home of the Captioned Media Program (CMP).  The CMP provides a free-loan media program of over 4,000 open-captioned titles (videos, CD-ROM, and DVD), many of which are in Spanish. Deaf and hard of hearing persons, teachers, parents, and others may borrow materials. There are no rental, registration, or postage fees. Several hundred titles are also streamed on the CMP web site.

"The mission of the Captioned Media Program (CMP) is to provide all persons who are deaf or hard of hearing awareness of and equal access to communication and learning through the use of captioned educational media and supportive collateral materials. The ultimate goal of the CMP is to permit media to be an integral part in the lifelong learning process for all stakeholders in the deaf and hard of hearing community: adults, students, parents, and educators."
